Zagreb, Croatia

J&G

Zagreb, Croatia – somewhat of a black hole for the both of us. We literally had no clue about the city, and therefore didn’t expect much. We were pleasantly surprised, though, so much that we decided to stay another night.

The city itself is very appealing. Relatively clean, friendly people, and perfect for strolling about. There are literally dozens of museums, and one we like in particular: The museum of broken relationships.

It’s exactly what the name says: It features stories of broken relationships of people all over the world. Some funny, many sad – and quite some just plain weird. Like, really weird. Each story has an article belonging to it, and a short (or long) text telling the story. Click the images below for a full view of two of the more harmless examples.

Some of them really made me laugh – like the guy finding out his girl cheated on him, who then went out and bought an axe and hacked up every single piece of furniture of hers in his place. He donated that axe to the museum, by the way.

All in all, we were amazed by the simple idea of that museum. It showed that museums don’t have to be covered in dust, or so spaced out that no mortal human even understands what it’s all about. No wonder that place won several awards, and ranks way up on tripadvisor. Oh – and the espresso is quite splendid, too.

Oops, almost forgot: The coolest shower EVER. Like – EVER. The room was horrible, we got it coz we wanted to stay another night and all regular rooms were booked out. It was in the basement, and stank of cigarette. Didn’t bother me a bit – I mean, who gets to shower with a quote of IL PADRINO on the glass??
