Riding through the desert of Nevada felt like sitting in front of a huge hot air fan and getting the protective motorcycle gear melted off my body. The only way that led to Las Vegas within reasonable time was the freeway, so nothing interesting on the way but desert, racing cars and trucks. We were happy when we finally arrived in the city of gambling. We checked in to our room in the once fancy and glamorous Stratosphere Hotel. I felt as if I was thrown back to the 90s. And not just because of the hideous carpets! Elvis, Michael Jackson and Co. are still alive in Las Vegas – probably more than they ever have been! Especially after seeing all these booming, fast growing and fancy cities in Asia (like Singapore, Hong Kong, Taipei and Shanghai) it is interesting to see how Las Vegas clings on to its reputation of a glamours city and still counts as an attractive tourist destination today. I wonder how much longer that reputation will be enough – for the actual city is surely fading away.
After loosing all our gambling money in Macau we did not try our luck in Las Vegas. We left the city after only two nights and headed to the canyon land. Stay tuned!
