Good Morning Vietnam! Hoi An

Good Morning Vietnam! Hoi An

Although we were hesitant to leave the beautiful beach at Hue, doing so using motorbikes did make the decision a bit easier. Knowing that we’d be doing a route which Jeremy Clarkson called “one of the best coast roads in the world” in the Top Gear Vietnam Special sure did help a lot, too. And he was right (he usually is, when he’s not busy hitting people). What a nice ride, even though our bikes probably sucked even more than those used by the guys from Top Gear. We got to Hoi An (yeah, Hanoi, Hoi An… we’re confused too) with smiles on our faces, which were not even wiped out by 36 hours of continuous rain. Oh yeah, Hoi An is pretty nice, but it was too wet for us to stay more than a day.

Do: Take a bike to get there. Seriously, that’s not a ride for a bus.

Do too: Get some clothes tailored. Supposedly home to the best tailors in Vietnam.

See: The old/touristy part of the town. It’s actually very nice, even though somewhat expensive.

Don’t: Think you won’t get wet. Coz you will.

Random fact: More than half of all street vendors we saw in Hoi An exclusively sold umbrellas and rain ponchos. Still think it won’t rain?
