City of eternal spring 2

The places we visit get smaller and smaller. Kunming is the capital of Yunnan and only 2 Million people live here. It is the main destination in China for summer tourism and is also called city of eternal spring (Number 2 because we had that already in Japan: Fukushima). Temperature is around 15 to 28 °C all year and it is located about 1’900 m above sea level, which results in a pretty nice climate. There is a park called the green lake in the city center, where people enjoy their free time. As soon as the heat of the day vanishes, countless runners appear and practice their rounds around the lake.

Another must see, according to the lonely planet and its friends, is the flea and flower market. I personally didn’t enjoy it at all. There are a lot of animals caged in small boxes stacked on top of the other, ready to be sold…

A few hours bus ride from Kunming, a very interesting natural phenomenon can be found. It is called the stone forest. Apparently, it was all covered by water a long time ago. Once the water disappeared, the ground dried up, forming huge cracks. In time, these cracks turned so big that the remaining ground level now looks like huge stone pillars.

Our next destination is 1’000 km away from Kunming and we wanted to take a train in the first place. But again, we were to late to catch any train tickets so we will have to fly once more. This time, with the notoriously late and somewhat shady Lucky Air.
